Guinea-Bissau has had internet problems in the last 48 hours

Guinea-Bissau has been experiencing problems with internet access for 48 hours, with two operators providing the service trying to resolve a problem they say originated abroad.

In conversation with Lusa, sources from the only two operators providing Internet in Guinea-Bissau (both fully foreign-owned companies) said that technical specialists are working on a solution to the problem.

Throughout the day Tuesday, both companies sent text messages to customers lamenting the situation and promising a quick resolution.

“Dear customer, we inform you that work to restore the Internet connection is still ongoing. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused,” says a message from one of the operators.

The other carrier still provides internet service from time to time, although it is only sufficient for some voice calling and text messaging applications.

Access to some internet signal is only possible for customers with a fixed antenna, which is no longer possible for those using mobile data.

A source for the company, which has its headquarters in Senegal, explained to Lousa that they were able to get some Internet signal from Dakar “due to backups.”

The same source predicted that the service would be restored on Tuesday, but this did not happen.
