Ten areas on the mainland, the northern coast of Madeira and Porto Santo will be under an orange warning on Thursday and Friday due to forecast rough seas, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said on Tuesday.
On the mainland, the areas of Faro, Porto, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a yellow warning from 09:00 to 18:00 on Thursday, followed by an orange warning from 18:00 . on Thursday and 6 a.m. on Friday.
The northern coast of Madeira Island and Porto Santo will be under a yellow warning from 03:00 to 09:00 Thursday, before turning orange from 09:00 Thursday to 00:00 Friday.
Porto Santo and the northern coast of Madeira will be under a yellow warning from 00:00 to 06:00 Friday.
IPMA forecasts waves from the west/southwest of significant heights of 5 to 6 meters on the continent, the northern coast of Madeira and Porto Santo on Thursday and Friday, reaching a maximum height of 11 meters.
An orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” and a yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
