During the “Safe Easter” special operation that began on March 22, during which a total of 511 people were detained, the PSP recorded more than 1,250 road accidents, police said this Sunday.
In a statement, the PSP summarizes the results of the special surveillance operation in connection with the Easter period, which began on March 22, emphasizing that until Saturday, 511 people were detained in the area of its intervention and 1,259 road accidents were recorded, resulting in 341 injuries – minor injuries, 13 – Serious injuries and one fatality in a hit and run.
The arrests were primarily traffic-related, with 120 for drunk driving and 96 for unlicensed driving.
During the same period, 63 drug trafficking suspects were arrested, more than 9,400 individual doses were seized, as well as 52 people for property crimes (fraud, theft and robbery).
Across the country, PSP inspected 19,644 drivers and monitored 60,562 vehicles using radar, of which 656 were driving over the speed limit, representing more than 15% of the total number of confirmed violations.
4,330 administrative offenses were recorded, including 91 for drunk driving, 430 for lack of mandatory periodic technical inspection, 143 for lack of civil liability insurance, 96 for using a mobile phone while driving and 43 for not wearing a seat belt.
Since the 22nd, the PSP has also confiscated 18 firearms and 30 bladed weapons following 19 arrests for possession of prohibited weapons.
In previous reports, the PSP had already reported the seizure of more than 395 kilograms of explosives.
In the note, PSP again urges citizens to drive safely by adapting their driving to weather conditions and road conditions.
Also remember that speeding is one of the leading causes of road accidents.
