A 14-year-old boy died trying to save his younger friend this Saturday on the River Tyne in England. Two young people were playing on a rope swing by the river when the 13-year-old fell into the water. According to the Daily Mail, the deceased teenager jumped into the river to save his friend.

Authorities were alerted by a local resident at 3:30 p.m.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, they were only able to save the 13-year-old. The teenager was taken to hospital, where he is in critical condition. The 14-year-old’s body was later found in the water and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
