Cape Verde opens Internet domain “cv” for CVs from all over the world

This Friday, Cape Verde opened the country’s Internet domain (.cv) for registration from anywhere in the world, eyeing the global market for services related to curriculum vitae and recruitment.

“The expectation is that this domain will be able to serve all professionals” on a global level, explained Lusa Opeyemi Awoyemi, president of Olacv, a Cape Verdean company affiliated with Whogohost of Nigeria, which was given management of the domain.

The domain has the same abbreviation used in most languages of the world to refer to professional resumes, and it is expected that from now on the Internet will create addresses through numerous resume and career related services ending with “resume”.

In this way, Cape Verde is making the most of the digital assets it has.

.cv domains are sold from 1000 escudos (about 10 euros) through the olacv.com portal, which accepts various forms of payment.

“[Num mundo com uma força de trabalho de 3,3 mil milhões de pessoas]“I don’t think any domain other than .me has ever had as much potential as this one,” said Awoyemi, a Nigerian entrepreneur who was part of the founding team of one of Africa’s major recruitment sites , Jobberman. and invests in other online activities.

The .cv domain currently has 3,500 registrations, mostly associated with organizations based in Cape Verde, but the person in charge hopes to achieve exponential growth globally.

“But the work is necessary and it won’t happen year after year: it will take time,” he told Lusa.

Among other things, efforts include contacting the largest domain registration companies in the world to include the Cape Verde domain in the listings they provide to those seeking names for their online businesses or other websites.

“We also want to focus on the email service,” that is, personal addresses on domains ending in “.cv,” in addition to other services that require “security and trust” guarantees.

Edna Oliveira, Minister of Public Modernization and Public Administration of Cape Verde, registered the domain “.cv” in her name during a demonstration at the launch ceremony held this Friday.

The governor promoted the idea of the country as a “competitive platform in the middle of the Atlantic” in the digital sphere, exporting services.

The main server of the .cv domain remains in Cape Verde and is transferred to the Intersectoral Agency for Economic Regulation (ARME), which regulates the electronic communications sector.

The opening, completed this Friday, follows a concession agreement signed in July 2023 between ARME and Nigerian domain management company WhoGoHost, with the operation being carried out through Olacv, an organization with roots in Cape Verde created for this purpose.
