G7 finance ministers today called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to finalize a program of assistance to Ukraine by the end of March, on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of the country.
“We call on the IMF and Ukraine to adopt a robust, ambitious, fully funded program with adequate conditions by the end of March,” the G7 joint statement released by the Japanese presidency after meeting in Bangalore, India, said.
In a declaration, the ministers of the seven most industrialized countries add that the sanctions “have so far weakened Russia’s ability to wage this illegal war.”
“We continue to closely monitor the sanctions and take additional measures if necessary,” said the ministers, who are calling on other countries to join the measures taken to impose sanctions on Russia.
Before the publication of this statement, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that Washington is in favor of the adoption of new sanctions against Moscow.
“Our sanctions have had a very important negative impact on Russia,” Yellen told reporters.
