The patrol vessel Mondego on Monday night aborted its mission to deliver Marine police officers and nature watchers to the Selvagens Islands in the Madeira archipelago, who are about to turn in their colleagues. cm.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the ship returned to the port of Caniçal for “technical reasons” and will be subject to “a technical inspection by the Directorate of Vessels that will sail to the island of Madeira for the purpose” on Tuesday.
However, unofficial sources report that there was a general power outage on board. The ship was already about 8 kilometers from Funchal when a lot of smoke flew out of the chimneys.
“The handover of the elements stationed in the Selvagens Islands will be provided by the Setúbal CHP today,” the statement said.
The Mondego caused riots after thirteen members of the garrison refused to go on a mission on the 11th, claiming damages that put the ship at risk.
The Navy said it was able to sail safely and initiated disciplinary proceedings against four sergeants and five Prak, who had already been replaced. A criminal case of disobedience has also been initiated against them, which is being investigated by the Military Court of Justice.
Over the past week, the Mondego has put to sea several times, training new crew and checking the measures taken in case of breakdowns.
