The Navy’s Kinetic Core has conducted 130 events since the beginning of the year, including explosive and drug detection and search, demonstrations and ceremonies.
“The Navy Cinematography Center, integrated into the Naval Academy, carried out 130 activities in 2024, namely, drug search and detection activities, explosive search and detection activities, participation in capability demonstrations, and participation in various military and civil ceremonies,” the department said in a statement.
The Navy said the 50-year-old core has 14 dogs, 10 of which are “trained and certified in various areas, namely drug detection and search, explosive detection and search, and tactical operations.”
The branch of the Armed Forces recently received four more dogs, which are undergoing training in scent detection and tactical operations, the report said.
The center also has “six certified handlers.”
The primary activity of this kinesthetic core is “search and detection of odors (narcotics and explosives)” and “is developing a project to train, train and employ tactical action dogs so that it can respond to the needs of operational units in these areas,” the Navy also reported.
