The director of the PSP said this Thursday that threats to attack schools on social media were nothing more than a “bad joke” and that the situation was already under control. Magina da Silva warned of the misuse of social media and the need for public vigilance.
“Five young people aged 14, 15 and 16 have been identified in Odivelas, Leiria, Aveiro and Vila Nova de Gaia who have been involved in threats to attack schools through social media, some of them with psychological problems and difficult families ‘ said the coordinator. from the National Counterterrorism Unit of the SP, Alves da Cunha, to the Luz agency.
“Public safety is a social responsibility. We cannot expect only the police to detect publications and signal them. Each of us should be attentive and try to help. In this particular case, this is monitored, controlled and people can be calm, but we all need to be on the alert,” the director of the PSP concluded.
One person has already been identified and is being escorted by the authorities.
In recent days, PSP representatives have been visiting schools in Greater Lisbon and asking for the attention of teachers and parents to report suspicious behavior. This is a warning following promises of a “massacre” – on unidentified social media profiles, in recent weeks – scheduled for this Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the US Columbine School attack in which two gunmen killed 13 students. and teachers.
