The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) has arrested seven people on charges of price gouging for Coldplay’s concerts this week in Coimbra. The information was provided to the ASAE in a statement sent to the newsrooms this Monday.
According to the ASAE, an operation was carried out last week that resulted in the confiscation of 13 tickets that were advertised on social networks at prices far exceeding the official cost, with a surcharge of 45 to 160 euros.
As part of the investigation, seven people were detained. They were present at the first interrogation and coercive measures were applied to them in the form of a term for establishing their identity and place of residence. Defendants can pay a fine of between 400 and 600 euros if they want the proceedings to be temporarily suspended.
Two weeks ago, seven more people, including a minor, were also arrested for speculating on ticket prices for a British band concert. The actions of this police took place in Lisbon, Maya, Setúbal and Vila Nova de Gaia. Five criminal cases initiated
The ASAE is warning consumers to avoid buying tickets above their official price as this sale constitutes a crime of profiteering, punishable by six months to three years in prison.
Coldplay concerts in Coimbra will be held on 17, 18, 20 and 21 May. Tickets for the concerts, priced between 65 and 150 euros, sold out in at least a few hours after generating unprecedented demand in Portugal.
