Court rejects Nicolas Sarkozy’s appeal and upholds 3 years in prison for corruption and influence peddling

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday dismissed his appeal against the sentence handed down to him by the Court of Appeal in Paris, Reuters reported. Recall that Sarkozy was convicted in 2021 for corruption and influence peddling.

The court upheld three years in prison, two of which are suspended, and Sarkozy will be allowed to wear an electronic bracelet.

It was in 2021 that a court of first instance convicted the former French leader of attempting to bribe a judge and exert influence in exchange for inside information about an investigation into his 2007 campaign finances.

Nicolas Sarkozy, now 68, served as President of France from 2007 to 2012.
