The Minister of Education announced this Wednesday that a diploma aimed at correcting the asymmetry of the teacher’s career freeze will be approved on Thursday by the Council of Ministers, a measure that covers “at least 60,000 teachers.”
“We believe that the conditions have been met for the approval of the decree-law tomorrow in the Council of Ministers,” Joao Costa said this Wednesday at a press conference, two days after an additional negotiating meeting between the ministry and teachers’ unions, which ended without agreement.
The Government Decree to address the asymmetry resulting from the freeze on teachers’ careers provides for a set of measures to speed up the promotion of teachers who worked during the two freeze periods from 2005 to 2017.
Joao Costa recalled that the consequences of the career freeze that occurred during the Troika period are still at stake, which in the meantime has partially recovered.
“There is progress in the career of a teacher that even surpasses other careers,” the minister added.
The diploma provides that teachers restore the time during which they waited for vacancies in the 4th and 6th grades from the year of the thaw (2018), that they are exempt from vacancies for admission to the 5th and 7th grades, in addition to reduction by one year of the duration of the stage for those who were also waiting for a vacancy, but already above the 6th stage.
