PS refuses to hear the Prime Minister in the commission of inquiry and accuses the opposition of “populism”.

Socialist Party President Eurico Brillante Diaz guarantees that he does not agree that Prime Minister António Costa goes to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) saying it is “populism”. “They don’t say anything about TAP,” he says.

“What was said in the CRPD clearly indicates that the process must continue in the judiciary. The degradation of institutions should not be confused with the degradation of the opposition,” he adds.

Eurico Brillante Diaz also admits that “the opposition insists on the desire to hold a senseless discussion in Parliament” and does not focus on the “truth”.

PS accused the opposition of seeking to downgrade the parliamentary commission of inquiry into TAP, noting that the prime minister was not involved in the decision to launch SIS to restore the computer of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

In addition to eliminating the possibility of António Costa testifying in person before a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the activities of the TAR, as demanded by the Liberal Initiative and supported by the Bloc de Esquerda, the chairman of the socialist bench also sought to separate the information services and their responsibility for the subject of discussion in the commission of inquiry.

In front of journalists, Eurico Brillante Diaz once again defended the adequacy of the government’s use of SIS so that a computer that left the Ministry of Infrastructure with classified information could be recovered. A computer owned by Frederico Pinheiro, former assistant minister Joao Galamba, who was relieved of his duties a few hours ago by Joao Galamba himself.

“Without prejudice to the intervention of the Minister [João Galamba]The information service was not activated by the minister. It was a strict protocol that any government member or head of cabinet obviously has to follow when classified information leaves the government perimeter,” he explained.

When asked about the contradictions that marked the statements made by the Minister of Infrastructure on Thursday before the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, namely that António Costa knew in advance about the use of SIS, the President of the Parliamentary Group objected to the PS, which did not hear any contradiction.

“We should not feed this kind of speech, let’s not feed a story that, strictly speaking, has feet of clay. It was bluntly stated that the Prime Minister never participated in the activation of information services,” he stressed.

Eurico Brillante Diaz later said that he was aware of an attempt to make a call from João Galamba to António Coste, which “had no success”.

When asked if the PS would agree to the prime minister personally testifying before a parliamentary commission of inquiry, which is what the Liberal Initiative and the Left Bloc are for, he replied: “This is a very clear example of how institutions are designed to degenerate.”
