A Brazilian immigrant in Portugal accused of fraud by other Brazilians says “there are no criminal cases” and that she did not commit “any illegal act” in helping her compatriots emigrate to the country she also chose to live in.
“There are only complaints,” Jeanne Villela stressed in statements to Luce, thus responding to the complaints of Brazilian immigrants who accuse her of defrauding them of thousands of euros by promising them a house, car and documents upon arrival in Portugal. where they had nothing on the day they landed in Lisbon.
Jeanne Villela also assured that the Portuguese authorities were not looking for her, despite the accusations leveled against Luce by two immigrants.
Valdecir Bravo filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office, which considered that “the published facts may be related to such a type of crime as fraud, so it was decided to open an investigation.”
However, the order stated that, since the payments were made by the applicant in Brazil, the case fell outside the competence of the Portuguese prosecutor’s office and was referred to the Brazilian justice system. Thus, the Valdesir process was archived in Portugal.
Another immigrant interviewed also filed a complaint with the Santarém police, and the process is now in court.
In an interview with Lusa, Jeanne Villela, a Brazilian immigrant who has lived in Portugal for almost four years, admitted that she helped Brazilians who wanted to emigrate to Portugal, but argued that this was never her professional activity. He charged between 300 and 350 euros per person just to be able to bear the travel expenses, which he often did to look for houses, cars and take care of documents for these people.
“These were people who already knew me in some way or through family or friends. These people contacted me,” he emphasized, explaining the procedures: “My role was that people were looking for me, and I was looking for a house and apartment for everyone. The aforementioned amount of 300-350 euros was indeed for my trip,” he added.
As for the complaints, the immigrant has only one explanation: “I think that for some reason people believe that these amounts, mainly in connection with rent, are withheld from me.”
A suspicion he now denies. On April 9, while reporting, Lusa was unable to confront Jeanne Villela with the accusations of her compatriots, because she was in Belgium.
The immigrant said that she had negotiated the payment of what she believed was due to one of the plaintiffs. However, the amount has not yet been paid due to disagreements.
As for Valdésir Bravo, the problems stem from a lack of agreement between him and his wife regarding the houses, which Jeanne Vilela alleges showed, resulting in the loss of advance funds.
According to Jeanne, her lawyer has a list of all the amounts in order to be able to prove that what the immigrant claims and the landlord is in fact one of the witnesses in his favor, if the process continues.
As for the complaints that may exist from other people who didn’t make them, perhaps because they were afraid to speak up, Jeanne denies knowing: “I don’t know about it” and “I’ve never had a problem with anyone.”
