Salaries in commissions for coordination and regional development have been criticized

The law restructuring the Commissions for Coordination and Regional Development (CCDR) equates the salaries of the presidents of these five entities to that of the prime minister, which can reach more than 8,200 euros – base salary plus representation expenses – so that although it was passed by the President of the Republic , draws criticism in Belém Palace.

For the President of the Republic, the currently introduced diplomas have created a precedent “where the salary of the leaders of the Central Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reached, in one case, the salary of the Prime Minister and has surpassed the salary of ministers in charge of various areas.” Marcelo makes it clear that “the logic of attracting the best employees” is clear, but “the remuneration system in the Portuguese public administration is more complex and individual”.

The president also criticizes the “lack of strategic clarity” regarding the goals and timetable for the transfer of powers from the state to the CCR “outside the three already known areas (agriculture, culture and economy)”. Portugal has five regional entities (North, Center, Lisbon and Tagus Valley, Alentejo and Algarve).
