The spill of a toxic and flammable substance from a tanker truck with a Spanish registration parked on Avenida António Ribeiro, in the Aguas Livres district of Amadora, resulted in the evacuation of residential buildings and businesses in an area of 300 meters.
This was stated by Mario Conde, commander of the Amadora fire department. cm that the alarm was raised at 13:05.
“The company that owns the truck or the driver has not yet been identified. A substance began to drip from the faucet of the tank, which, as it quickly turned out, was highly toxic and flammable, ”the person in charge explained.
“This substance is methyl acrylate,” Captain Mario Conde added.
This substance, used in the chemical industry, is characterized by a very intense smell. Authorities advised people to close their windows.
Five vehicles and 20 firefighters from the Amadora Corporation, as well as Amadora PSP and civil protection equipment, were immediately mobilized to the spot.
Support was requested for the environmental control vehicle of the Lisbon Fire Engineer Regiment.
According to the commander of the Amadora Volunteer Fire Department, the work is almost completed. The car had a Spanish registration and the identity of the driver had already been established.
