Carlos Eduardo Reis announces he will sue TVI and says ethical rules apply to everyone

SDP MP Carlos Eduardo Reis announced this Thursday that he would sue TVI/CNN and said he agreed with the party’s position not to collude with illegal acts, hoping “high ethical standards” apply to everyone.

Speaking to reporters at the end of the PSD parliamentary group meeting, Carlos Eduardo Reis answered questions about the reports broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings by TVI/CNN Portugal in which his name appears and about this report, Operation Tutti Frutti, wiretapping and communications were intercepted, indicating an alleged “secret deal” between the PSD and PS for each party to retain leadership of some parish councils in Lisbon for the 2017 municipal elections.

When asked about the political conditions for remaining as a deputy, Eduardo Reis said that this would be his assessment, which he would do daily.

“I am the one who gives this assessment, my business activities over the years are at stake, this is not my mandate here in the Assembly of the Republic, and not my public office. It is important that this line be drawn. “The trust, as you have seen, I have from all my colleagues,” he said, referring to the expressions of solidarity he received at the meeting.

The deputy said that justice never called him, despite the fact that he “begged to be heard” several times without being charged, repeating that he never corrupted anyone.

Carlos Eduardo Reis has announced that he will sue TVI/CNN and journalist Enrique Machado for news he considers “incompetent, deceitful and ill-prepared.”

“It’s ‘tutti frutti’ instead of ‘tutti quanti’ and only a peeled apple can come out,” he criticized.

On how the SDP reacted to the process, he repeated what he said at the parliamentary group meeting: “I won’t be a useful idiot and they won’t use me to fight politically against the government.”

Asked if he criticizes the fact that SDP leader Joaquim Miranda Sarmento raised the issue with the prime minister on Wednesday, he replied: “No, I agree with the general secretary of the party when he says that we must be absolutely intransigent with illegal activities and adhere to high ethical standards here. Naturally, this applies to everyone,” he stressed.

Carlos Eduardo Reis justified his speech this Thursday at the collegiate meeting because the topic was brought up for discussion with the prime minister by the SDP parliamentary leader and for the purpose of “transparency and solidarity” before making statements to the media.

“What should worry a citizen is that after five years of not being heard, there is a TV channel that has the whole process, and I, like others, are not even a defendant,” he complained, asking to think about transferring court cases to “people’s courts.” , editors.

The deputy said that since 2019 he has not been conducting any entrepreneurial activity and “is exclusively engaged in politics.”

“I have never confused my political activity with business, I don’t know if everyone can say the same,” he stressed, assuring that he never harmed the public wallet, but, on the contrary, suffered “personal, professional and economic – financial damage”.

Regarding some of the hearings in which he is mentioned, he said that the conversations he had this Thursday as a politician “are naturally different from those he had as a businessman” and responded in particular to two related to the alleged favoritism for construction. Belenenses rugby fields and have a company that worked with councils in the capital.

“I was a businessman and the goal of the companies is to make money, I was fully interested in the Belenenses project, it was a project for which they still owe me a lot of money, what was there was built by me, young people. play there all the time. days at my expense,” he said, adding that in addition to this company, he had others.

Carlos Eduardo Reis also stressed that he does not know the ministers Fernando Medina and Duarte Cordeiro, apart from their interaction as a politician, just like he does not know the architect Manuel Salgado.

“I did not elect candidates for councils in 2017, I have neither apartments nor shops in Torre de Picoas, I have nothing to do with these processes,” he assured.
