On Tuesday, PS and PCP denied Chega’s request for a written statement from the President of the Republic to the TAP commission to investigate SIS activities in the April 26 events at the Ministry of Infrastructure.
At the beginning of the TAP investigation commission meeting on Tuesday, MPs rejected this demand, with the PS and the PKP voting against, the PSD and BE abstaining, and the votes were only for Chega and IL.
The purpose of the request was for the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to testify “in writing about the activities of the Security Information Service (SIS) in the recovery of Frederico Pinheiro’s computer”, former Deputy Minister Joao Galamba.
During the intervention period, only PS and Chega took the floor, and the socialist coordinator Bruno Aragao again justified this vote against by the fact that the request was not within the competence of the commission of inquiry.
Chega MP Filipe Melo again accused the PS of using the “skating rink” of the absolute majority, emphasizing the importance of this testimony of the head of state.
At the same TAP Inquiry Panel meeting, the PCP’s request to send documents from Social Security “information about payments made in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 from TAP or Atlantic Gateway income from TAP SA and TAP SGPS administrators.”
Chega President Andre Ventura announced the request this weekend.
“Even knowing how ticklish this can be, I want to let you know that Chega turned today [terça-feira] to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on the TAP, a letter asking the President of the Republic to give a written statement to the Commission of Inquiry explaining what the Prime Minister told him, who interfered with the use of SIS and how this interference took place,” said André Ventura, speaking at the National party council, which took place in Vila Real.
The events of 26 April involve Frederico Pinheiro, a former assistant to minister João Galamba, and are linked to the ex-deputy’s allegations of physical abuse at the Ministry of Infrastructure and the alleged theft of a laptop after it was discontinued, a case being investigated by the State Ministry.
During last week’s debate in the Assembly of the Republic, the Prime Minister stated that he did not see any illegality in the actions of the SIS to return the computer of former Deputy Minister Joao Galamba, ensuring that no member of the government gave any instructions or guidance for the actions of this service. .
António Costa also considered before the deputies that the SIS acted “adequately, proportionately and without exceeding its powers.”
