The Justice Department announced this Wednesday that it has authorized 150 career promotions for prison guards due later this year as part of the Prison Guard Corps Multi-Year Recruitment and Promotion Plan.
The 150 jobs approved for 2023 include the promotion of 100 workers to the Chief Security Officer category, 45 workers to the Supervisor category, and 5 workers to the Chief Supervisor category, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a statement.
“Since 2014, there has been no promotion to the category of chief security guard. The last promotions to the Chief Commander category took place in 2018, and to the Prison Commissioner category in 2017,” adds the MOJ.
According to the Department of Justice, the promotion represents another step in the context of a multi-year agreement on the evaluation of employees in public positions signed between the government, the Federation of Unions of Public Employees and Public Service Organizations (FESAP) and the Union of State Technical Personnel (STE), which has already represented in 2023 for employees belonging to the category of security guards an increase in their basic remuneration of about 104 euros.
With regard to the category of prison guards, the Ministry of Justice indicates that the increase in the first pillar of the salary amounted to 122.36 euros (+10.9%) compared to the salary situation in 2022, taking into account the base salary and updating the corresponding allowances, while while the increase in the second payment pillar corresponds to 145.40 euros (+12.4%).
“Taking into account the progressiveness of the increase proposed for 2024, 2025 and 2026, it should be noted that a prison guard who enters this career in 2026 will receive a higher remuneration than in 2022 by approximately 333 euros, i.e. an increase of almost 30% in relation to the remuneration before the increase, ”says the MJ.
