German prosecutors say link to case over ‘elements’ found during searches has yet to be established

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) of Braunschweig, Germany, said this Thursday that it has yet to establish a link to Maddie’s case of “elements” collected during three days of searches at the Arade dam in Silves.

“As part of this operation, some elements were collected. They will be analyzed in the coming days and weeks,” the Brunswick Attorney General said in a statement, adding that it was “still too early” to determine if they are related to the case.

Last week, at the request of the German authorities, the Portuguese police raided the Arade dam for three days, trying to find evidence related to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann 16 years ago in Praia da Luz, in the municipality of Lagos. and sent the collected material to Germany.

The place where the searches took place was frequented by German citizen Christian Brückner, suspected of the disappearance of “Maddie”.

A member of the German parliament, quoted by France Presse, also said that “the Brunswick investigation into the 46-year-old suspect is likely to continue for a long time.”

Christian Bruckner is serving time in Kiel (Germany) for yet another crime. He was also charged last October by a German court with three crimes of rape and two crimes of child sexual abuse in Portuguese territory, allegedly committed between 2000 and 2017.

While the allegations against Brückner are unrelated to the Maddy case, German investigators have since 2020 pointed to him as the prime suspect in the disappearance and alleged murder of a British child.

The suspect denied any involvement in the case.

The area around the Arade Dam, about fifty kilometers from the site of Maddie’s disappearance, had already been searched in 2008, including by divers, who found only animal remains.

The Judicial Police (PJ) coordinated searches involving other Portuguese organizations, which were accompanied by the German and British authorities.
