U.S. tech company Uber pledged in London this Thursday that its drivers will drive emission-free cars in the UK and the European continent by 2030, and in all markets by 2040.
Sustainability innovation was showcased this Thursday at the ‘Go Get Zero’ event featuring Executive President (CEO) Dara Khosrowshahi.
Uber offers taxi, courier and home delivery services (Uber Eats) through mobile applications.
To achieve a green transition in its delivery business, Uber will “expand its micromobility collaboration agreements in major cities” to make it easier for distributors to rent or buy bikes and electric vehicles, the company said in a statement.
He points out that in the case of Spain and Portugal, Uber has an agreement with Cooltra that will offer favorable terms for access to mopeds and electric bikes.
Uber Eats also plans to have partner restaurants use sustainable, recyclable or reusable packaging in 80% of the US, UK and Asia Pacific markets by 2025 and 100% globally by 2030.
This will be facilitated by agreements with Cooltra, Visa or Bunzl (a leading company in the field of sustainable packaging) and cooperation with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the note says.
Uber has already announced in 2020 a goal that its “mobile” or taxi business will be globally emission-free by 2040 and expects drivers in cities like London to use electric vehicles by 2025.
