The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) registered 48 bad weather incidents between 00:00 and 08:00 this Friday, almost half of them in the Porto and Braga regions.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, ANEPC’s Elicio Pereira said there were 13 cases in the Porto region and seven in Braga during this period.
“The rest is scattered across several districts. Mostly it was floods and falling trees. The night was calmer, the peak of incidents was registered late in the evening of Thursday and in the early evening, ”he said.
ANEPC registered 277 bad weather cases up to 22:30 Thursday, mostly in the northern part of the continent.
These were mainly tree falls, floods, road clearing and structural collapse due to rain and strong winds.
Individual cases have also been reported in the Lisbon area and the Setúbal peninsula, according to ANEPC.
On Thursday, 1,137 operators were involved in incidents, none of which were serious or with injuries confirmed by 398 land assets.
In Lisbon, the Fire Regiment recorded about 30 rain incidents on the night of Thursday to Friday, mostly floods and falling trees, but without seriousness.
On Wednesday, the ANEPC issued a warning of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds until Friday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Friday placed the areas of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Bragança, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarem and Castelo Branco under yellow warning level up to 15 :00 this Friday due to the forecast of showers, which can sometimes be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.
A yellow warning is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather dependent activities.
