Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (April) regained six positions this Saturday in the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix sprint race, the sixth race of the season, finishing 12th after starting from 18th.
The Portuguese driver completed 11 laps 7.930 seconds behind the winner, Italy’s Francesco Bagna (Ducati), who left compatriot Marco Besecchi (Ducati) in second position, 0.369 seconds, and Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) in third position, 0.952.
It was Bagnaia’s third win in six sprint races this season.
Miguel Oliveira, who is still recovering from a broken left shoulder at the fourth race of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix, started in 18th position but was already 14th on lap two.
The race was quite difficult, not least because the rain threatened to hit the Mugello circuit in Italy and a few drops fell on the first few laps.
However, there was not enough water for the riders to go to the “boxes” to change to motorcycles with wet tires.
Being faster races and only scoring points in the top nine, the maneuvers also become more aggressive as there is less room to recover lost time.
South African Brad Binder (KTM) was even penalized for a long lap for causing Spaniard Alex Marquez (Ducati) to fall on the first lap.
Miguel Oliveira’s former teammate set a new MotoGP speed record with a speed of 366.1 km/h.
Spaniard Alex Rins (Honda) also fell to the ground and was eventually taken to the track’s medical center for tests.
Australian Jack Miller (KTM) was also involved in skirmishes and, above all, in a collision with the Spaniard Marc Marquez (Honda), because of which the Catalan rider lost some positions.
Ducati finished in the top five with five bikes, while Frenchman Johann Zarco and Italian Luca Marini finished fourth and fifth respectively.
With these results, Francesco Bagna extended his lead in the Drivers’ Championship from one to four points over Marco Besecchi. Bagnaya, the reigning champion, now has 106 points to Bezekki’s 102. Miguel Oliveira is in 16th place out of 21st.
Sunday is the main race of the Italian Grand Prix.
