Claire Scanlon, 38, is on trial for the murder of her five-year-old son after becoming “angry” and “embittered” when the child’s father ended their relationship. The crime happened on December 31 last year. Dylan was found dead at his family’s home in Oldham, England.
In accordance with daily mail, the woman used an antidepressant that she was prescribed to cause the death of the child. A boy will ingest nine times the dose needed to kill an adult. The woman is also accused of beating a minor before giving him medicine.
In court, Claire Scanlon denied all charges and stated that the boy took the medicine alone.
After giving her son the medicine, Claire Scanlon went to her uncle’s house to ask for help because the boy was not moving or breathing. It was also the woman who called Dylan’s father to tell him that his son was not answering.
The boy was found dead in the couple’s bed with “significant” bruises on his head and body. However, injuries were not given as the cause of death, as toxicological reports showed that the boy had been poisoned.
The child’s father said the ex-wife was “annoyed and depressed” by the end of the relationship. Claire Scanlon sent several messages to her son’s father after he moved in with another woman. “I swear you won’t see him again. Enjoy life,” the woman said in a voice message sent to her former partner.
