This Monday, the PKP general secretary accused the government of being “solely responsible” for how this school year ends, and said that the growth of the economy is not “turning into nothing in the pockets of the workers.”
In his speech at the opening of the PCP Parliamentary Days, which take place from Monday to Tuesday in the Serra da Estrela, Paulo Raimundo considers it necessary to invest in education and public schools, as well as to respect and value their professionals.
“Recognition is required of the time of the frozen career of teachers – six years, six months and 23 days – as teachers have indicated and still indicate with their expressive struggle,” he stressed.
The leader of the PKP argued that “it is necessary to demand an end to the instability that affects 53% of teachers in higher education” and mentioned that “out of 20,000 non-standard teachers with more than three years of service, the government is committed to only tie half” and the rest will “continue to live on the wire.”
“The government, by choice, is responsible for the consequences for the lives of these workers and is fully responsible for how this school year ends and the next begins. (…) This is also where the future of public schools is determined,” he defended..
In this speech, which lasted about 15 minutes, the Secretary General of the PCP also emphasized that “three million workers, 70% of the total, earn less than a thousand euros gross per month”, at the same time, “The main economic groups of Portugal in 2022 received a profit of 20 million euros per day.”
“The economy is growing, we are told this every day. It grows everywhere, it always goes up, but this growth in this economy does not return to anything in the pockets of workers and pensioners. button, and it is very good to see this growth,” he said.
Paulo Raimundo believed that “it is urgent to put an end to this course, this reality” and argued that “only a patriotic and left-wing policy will increase the income of those who work, tax capital, evaluate and regulate the populations of the hinterland.”
Listing several measures presented by the PCP in the Assembly of the Republic, in particular labor and access to public services, Paulo Raimundo expressed his regret that this policy is confronted every day with “government options”.
“In addition to staged sullen patronage, [essas opções] essentially serve their interests and protect the most burdensome norms of the Labor Code for employees,” he stressed.
For Paulo Raimundo, “it has been and is so in everything that implies rights and wages for workers”, whenever “the protection of the profits of economic groups is put before the improvement of living conditions” or “whenever it is necessary to make room for private business” in space for government services.
“In all this, the PS, PSD, Chega, IL converged, as the stars converged for their own purposes,” he stressed.
When the PKP parliamentary group and several activists listened to him, the communist general secretary defended that “today, as always, the necessary measures will be taken sooner or later thanks to the struggle and organization of the workers.”
“Measures and proposals that the PKP will continue to propose,” he assured.
