The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) will take legal action against former General Assembly (AG) President Mario Costa and others who have damaged the organization’s reputation, President Pedro Proenza said on Monday.
The measure is part of the alleged involvement of former manager Mario Costa and the BSports academy in the municipality of Famalicao in a human trafficking scheme that, according to Pedro Proens, requires “strong response and action” from the LPFP.
“We will consult with and empower lawyers and other entities as we deem appropriate to file, solicit and promote any action, action and diligence prescribed to identify and ultimately hold individuals and entities accountable for conduct that is detrimental to good name, honor and image of the LPFP,” the leader of the organization announced at the end of the General Assembly, which took place this Monday in Porto.
As part of these measures, Pedro Proenza detailed “lawsuits against the former president of AG [Mário Costa] and to all others and any organizations that may be liable for damage to reputation caused by the LPFP or for the omission of relevant information given under oath.”
The president of the organization in charge of professional football competitions in Portugal also ensured that the LPFP would “request the appointment of an assistant in all processes related to this case” and “take legal action against BSports for misuse of the LPFP’s proprietary name.” “.
Pedro Proenza also announced that he would be promoting “forensics through an external organization” to “reveal the legal, criminal and property liability arising from this report.”
“Looking at this case, we understand that the verification mechanisms that we have implemented in the LPFP, despite the fact that they guaranteed us certification of anti-corruption standards and good governance, need to be strengthened and updated,” he said.
In this context, Pedro Proenza also announced that “pre-qualification mechanisms will be developed with the clubs for all members of the governing bodies, management and executive management, as well as all employees and employees of the LPFP. enhanced.”
“We have an obligation to try to shield the LPFP from anyone who could cause harm in any way. We will not allow anyone who does not want to serve professional football to leave without firm, effective and immediate action, but rather to be used on behalf of specific interests,” completed.
The leader reiterated that he was “totally surprised” by the allegations that former AG president Mario Costa is falling in this alleged human trafficking case.
“Neither I nor any element of my executive management was aware of the commercial activities of the former president of AG. We also did not know about BSports or its activities, and even today we are not aware of any details related to it, except for the news that the media followed,” he concluded.
