Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko approved this Saturday an amendment to the media law that allows the government to ban foreign news.
This Saturday, an amendment to the law “On the Mass Media” was adopted, aimed at “improving the mechanisms for protecting national interests in the media.”
According to the text of the executive branch, the new provision also provides for “expansion of tools for responding to enemy actions.”
This amendment makes it easier to ban the activities of foreign media if “foreign states show hostile actions against the Belarusian media.”
In addition, the amendment redefines the characteristics that determine the credibility of news aggregators.
