Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa spoke to reporters at the end of the initiative in the former royal arena, next to the Belen Palace in Lisbon, about the dismissal of the Secretary of State for Defense Marco Capitan Ferreira, recognized as an arguido. as part of the “Perfect Storm” process, which led to searches in the Ministry of Defense.
Without commenting on this particular case, the head of state stated that the Portuguese are “very sensitive to transparency and corruption, but to transparency in general.”
“It is impossible to separate the idea of inflation, the economic situation, the social situation from the Portuguese idea of using public money, because it is their money,” argued Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.
Asked if he interpreted Prime Minister António Costa’s words as devaluing the case, he replied: “I would never say that he would say that transparency or corruption is not important to the Portuguese. do not say”.
