Elon Musk announced this Wednesday the creation of an artificial intelligence (AI) company. The American tycoon has been planning to launch a competitor to ChatGPT for several months now.
xAI is a separate company from X Corp (the group founded by Elon Musk), but ensures that it will work closely with “X (Twitter), Tesla and other companies to advance the group’s mission,” read the website.
The company aims to “know the true nature of the universe,” the website says.
The announcement comes months after Musk said in an interview that artificial intelligence could lead to “the destruction of civilization.” The American mogul has joined other tech leaders in calling for a halt to AI development, which he says is “out of control.”
Recall that Meta, the owner of Facebook, recently launched a new social network called Threads, the purpose of which is to compete with Musk’s Twitter.
