A man in his 70s died this Sunday in a train collision on the Beira Baixa line in the municipality of Gavian, Portalegre district, a civil protection source told Lusa.
A source in the Alto Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Defense Authority indicated that the accident occurred with a passenger train, the alert was filed at 15:31.
A medical worker pronounced him dead on the spot, and the man’s body was sent to the forensic service of Portalegre Hospital, the same source said.
The Beira Baixa line has been temporarily disabled for relief operations, a source at the Sub-Regional Command said.
Twelve operatives were mobilized to the scene, supported by six vehicles from Gaviao firefighters, the Gaviao Municipal Civil Protection Service and the GNR.
