The leader of the IL Parliament, Rodrigo Saraiva, this Wednesday criticized the state of “degradation of public services, purchasing power and institutions”, blaming António Costa, and defended the need for “structural reforms”.
“We have a keyword that summarizes the current state of the nation: degradation. There are three degradations that stand out and are felt daily by the Portuguese: the degradation of public services, purchasing power and institutions,” IL parliamentary leader Rodrigo Saraiva said in a statement to Lusa news agency in the context of Thursday’s State of the Nation debate.
Rodrigo Saraiva believed that the degradation of public services could be seen in sectors such as education, the military, the security forces, or justice, but believed that health was the “paradigm example” of this deterioration.
“The governments of António Costa have sent more than five billion to solve the problem, and the problem is not solved, it only gets worse: queues for operations, consultations and (…) about one million 700 thousand Portuguese without access to a family doctor. “, He said.
On the other hand, the parliamentary leader of the IL stressed the decline in purchasing power as the Portuguese “suffocate financially”.
“Last year alone, IRS tax revenue increased by more than two billion euros, and the Portuguese do not feel the return on public services: too much tax and too little public services,” he said.
Along with these situations, the leader of the IL parliament also criticized the “degradation of institutions”, listing situations such as 13 resignations in the government, the leadership of the PS with requests for parliamentary ministerial hearings, or the actions of the Security Information Service. (SIS) due to incidents at the Ministry of Infrastructure.
“This is a whole set of situations in which António Costa is the obvious face of the degradation of institutions, public services and purchasing power,” he said.
The leader of the IL parliament recalled that in January the party presented a vote of no confidence in the government, considering it “incompetent, incompetent and unstable”, and said that it still does not trust the executive branch.
“We submitted a vote of no confidence because we thought that every day that António Costa’s government is in power, it will be worse for the country. What is the daily life of the Portuguese,” he said.
Anticipating IL’s priorities in the next legislative session, Rodrigo Saraiva recalled that his party had recently introduced the Health Basic Law, calling it a “structural reform proposal” aimed at responding to the diagnosis of degraded public services.
“This is the only way that Portugal can improve the life of the Portuguese: with structural reforms, starting with health care, education, taxation, not only in terms of lowering taxes, but also simplifying taxation,” he stressed.
