The first round of the national competition for access to public higher education opens on Monday with 54,311 vacancies, 275 more than originally advertised and 671 more than last year.
In a statement released today, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education highlights that the number of vacancies for this year’s national competition represents an increase of 671 vacancies compared to places originally available for admission in the previous academic year.
Taking into account the figures announced in April for the next academic year, 11 more courses with a total of 275 vacancies appeared in nine higher education institutions.
The Ministry has also updated the Infocursos portal (http://infocursos.pt/), which provides data and statistics on higher education courses to help students in their decision-making process when choosing courses.
Applicants with secondary education and entrance exams in Portuguese must apply for this first stage by 7 August, and students with secondary education and entrance exams abroad must apply by 31 July.
The announcement of the results is scheduled for August 27.
According to the ministry, taking into account all pathways of admission to public and private higher education institutions, including local art competitions, candidates over 23 years old, international students, holders of higher and post-secondary courses, course change situations, course graduates and admissions. in medicine by graduates – the total number of vacancies for higher education in 2023/2024 is about 100,000 vacancies.
In the communiqué, the Ministry also recalls some of the measures that mark this admissions competition, namely the pending calendar for the placement of the national access competition, which guarantees a minimum interval of 15 days between placement in the 1st phase and the start of classes.
Availability for the first time of a priority cohort of economically disadvantaged students (beneficiaries of stage A of the school social action) with 2028 vacancies for courses in all public higher education institutions and expansion to approximately 3800 vacancies priority cohort for emigrants, family members and descendants of the Portuguese for the 2nd stage of the competition – others innovations mentioned in the communiqué.
The second round of the nationwide competition for access to higher education starts on August 28, and the third on September 22.
