The executive director of the Porto City Council discusses on Monday the launch of a tender for the purchase and maintenance of a video surveillance system for the western and eastern parts of the city, at a base price of 2.4 million euros.
In the proposal, which Lusa had access to on Thursday, the councilor in charge of urbanism, Pedro Bagaña, specifies that the acquisition of a video surveillance system falls under a cooperation protocol established between the municipality and the Public Security Police (PSP).
On June 21, when video surveillance began operating in the city, the mayor of Porto announced that the municipality and the PSP were going to start the second phase of the project, which includes the purchase of 117 more cameras.
According to Rui Moreira, more than 117 cameras will be installed in various areas of the city, such as Mareschal Gomes da Costa, Pastelleira, Pinheiro Torres, Foz, Asprela and Campania.
The terms of reference indicate that the base price of the tender is 2,405,619.78 euros excluding VAT, of which 336 thousand euros will be for maintenance services, 1.2 million euros for the contract, 819 thousand euros for the purchase of equipment and 16,000 euros for equipment and services for the installation of materials.
The contract enters into force on November 24 and is valid until November 24, 2025, the document adds.
Porto’s 79-camera surveillance system went live on June 22 and covers arteries and public areas in the city centre, namely União de Freguesias de Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, Sao Nicolau and Vitoria.
The acquisition and maintenance of these cameras was entrusted to Soltrafego for more than 795,000 euros.
Video surveillance operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the chief of the operational zone of the Capital Command of the PSP is responsible for storing and processing data.
With this new equipment, the city of Porto will have around 196 CCTV cameras, the result of an investment by the municipality of around “four million euros,” the mayor said at the time.
