PS President Carlos Cesar congratulated the PSOE this Sunday on the election and considered that socialist Pedro Sanchez could remain as president of the Spanish government through “very difficult” negotiations, highlighting the “great defeat” of the far right.
“Congratulations PSOE! The leader of the Socialist Party, Pedro Sanchez, will be able to remain as president of the Spanish government. The PSOE will certainly have to update the coalition, now with SUMAR, as well as the necessary parliamentary agreements, which imply very difficult, but very likely successful negotiations,” Carlos Cesar wrote on Facebook.
For the PS president, “a solution that encourages a process that is well articulated with autonomies and provides for a moderate left-wing political project is the best solution for Spain”, noting that “Portuguese socialists are very pleased with this possible outcome.”
“The NP is on its way and the far right has suffered a major defeat, and while the PP had a little more percentage point than the PSOE, the PSOE has also risen in votes and positions. The survey companies, of course, recorded another defeat,” he adds.
BE coordinator Mariana Mortagua welcomed, via a post on the social network Twitter, “all the forces of the transformative left that prevented this Sunday a right-wing majority and defeated neo-fascism in the Spanish state.”
The leader of the blockist paid tribute to Yolanda Diaz for Sumar’s results.
Yolanda Diaz and “all friends and comrades” from Sumar were also congratulated by Livre’s sole deputy, Ruy Tavares.
On Twitter, Rui Tavares congratulated the platform “on the extraordinary campaign and result of this election”, saying that “it is through the ideas of the future that people are mobilized and we are confronted with hate speech.”
The conservative PP won Spain’s legislative elections this Sunday but did not win an absolute majority with VOX, according to preliminary results released by the government.
The PP with 136 MPs and the VOX with 33 MPs add up to 169 MPs in Parliament, leaving seven of the 176 needed for an absolute majority.
The PSOE with 122 MPs and Somar with 31 won a total of 153 parliamentary seats and may have more MPs than the allies of the last legislature.
Polls published by the Spanish television channels TVE and Telecinco at the end of the polls indicated a victory for PP with a possible absolute majority with VOX.
