The request comes three weeks after European justice lifted parliamentary immunity from the former leader of the Catalan government.
The stalemate came after the results of the Spanish elections, which saw Puigmont become
crucial to break the political impasse in Spain.The decision has already prompted a reaction from Puigdemno, who has pinpointed the timing of the request.
“One day you are determined to form a government in Spain, the next day Spain demands your arrest,” he tweeted.
