A presidency minister stressed this Wednesday that TAP is bound by a number of conditions with the European Commission and considers it important to avoid a strike through an agreement between the management and the crew union.
This position was put forward by Mariana Vieira da Silva at the end of the Council of Ministers meeting after being asked about the intention of the National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) to schedule another five days of strike until January 31, in addition to the blackout planned for this Thursday and Friday .
“The context in which the TAP intervention took place is known to all Portuguese. TAP is currently bound by the agreement with the European Commission,” said the holder of the presidential portfolio.
Referring to the restructuring agreement for the national air carrier signed with Brussels in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, Mariana Vieira da Silva said that “the reserves that exist in the face of this obligation that will have to be fulfilled are not normal fields.”
“Regarding the impact of the strike at this moment and under the conditions mentioned above, the government expects that within these limits an agreement can be reached between the administration of the TAR and the workers. it is necessary for them to be fulfilled in order to save the company,” the minister of the presidium emphasized.
On Tuesday, the infrastructure minister already called for an understanding between the crew union and TAP management to avoid the announced days of shutdown and the subsequent deterioration of the company’s economic situation.
“I can appeal to the administration, as well as the union, to make an effort to understand and save TAP from another five-day strike,” said Pedro Nuno Santos.
Also on Tuesday, in statements to the Lusa agency, TAP’s executive president was available to try to find solutions to avoid further disruptions.
Christine Urmier-Weidener expressed “deep regret” at SNPVAC’s decision and emphasized that the company is “ready” to meet with the union after a two-day crew strike this week, which SNPVAC decided on this Wednesday at a general meeting. , support.
