Singer Sixto Rodriguez, best known worldwide for his role in the documentary Looking for Sugar Man, died Tuesday night at the age of 81. In accordance with Detroit News, the artist faced some health problems.
Sixto Rodriguez recorded two albums in the 70s in Detroit: Cold Fact (1970) and Coming from Reality (1971).
Both releases were commercial failures in the US, but unknowingly the singer became an icon in South Africa. Many young people in this country who were repressed by the government identified with the themes and lyrics.
