US committed to normalizing Israeli-Saudi relations, but no deal yet

The Saudi government may recognize the State of Israel in exchange for security guarantees and the establishment of a Palestinian state following a United States diplomatic initiative, The Wall Street Journal reported today.

US administration sources told the newspaper that Riyadh and Washington have already worked out the general terms of an agreement under which Saudi Arabia should also distance itself from China and receive civilian nuclear components.

The US and President Joe Biden are hoping the details of the agreement will be finalized before August 2024, which will mean an important asset for the current leader of the White House and ahead of the presidential election in November of that year, where he is a candidate for re-election.
