Mirri Lobo has already recorded five albums. was hobby for a singer from Sal Island in Cape Verde. “I’ve always had my own way, and after 12 years of doing absolutely nothing, the idea came up to record the CD “Caldera Preta”, from which we recorded the song “Encomenda de terra”, which blew up everything around and was a great success. .”, – says the singer about the album that dictated his return to music: “There are two main points in the song ‘Encomenda de terra’. Firstly, it talks about the traditions of expatriates when they return to the diaspora. They always take what the Creoles like. But it also speaks to the character that is Joe Palavra, a figure here on the island, who also lived in America and had a habit of visiting people returning from Cape Verde orders from the land. Hence the name Rusga, Joe Palavra was Rusga”, – says the singer.
Eight years after “Caldera Preta”, Mirri Lobo recorded her latest album “Salgadim” (“Salgadinho” as the locals call it, in a funnier way). “Except that it was not lucky to immediately catch up with the pandemic at the top. There was no time to promote an album that was almost in a drawer. Now, very recently, I’m doing some shows and presenting the songs from the new CD,” says Mirri Lobo, who now has a big stage to show her work live. “This participation in the Sal Kriol jazz festival is very important for me. Because it’s the arrival on my island of a very important musical event in Cape Verde and it’s an opportunity to present Salgadim”, he concludes.
