PSD accuses Santos Silva and Andre Ventura of “complicity and collusion”

This Wednesday, the Secretary General of the PSD accused the Speaker of the Parliament and André Ventura, as well as P.S. and Chega, in “complicity and collusion” in the rejection of the Social Democrats’ project that called for a referendum on the decriminalization of euthanasia.

“What happened today [quarta-feira] this was a disruption to the normal functioning of parliament and an extreme example of complicity and collusion between PS and Chega, between dr. Andre Ventura and Dr. Santos Silva, under the high patronage of the Prime Minister,” Hugo Soares accused in statements to reporters at the PSD’s national headquarters.

The President of the Assembly of the Republic on Wednesday decided not to accept the SDP initiative for a referendum on the decriminalization of euthanasia, as “the circumstances have not changed” regarding the previous initiative already submitted on the same issue by Chegoy. in June and which was rejected.

After a conference of leaders, BE and PAN defended that the PSD initiative, which called for a referendum on the decriminalization of euthanasia, should have been accepted, even though it contradicted its content, but PS, Chega, IL and Livre agreed with the rejection .

“The country must know that today [quarta-feira] PS and Chega’s mask fell off, dr. Santos Silva et André Ventura was alone, hand in hand defending the unprotected from the SDP and from democracy,” criticized Hugo Soares, stating that “the country should be aware of this collusion, this complicity of politics and political goals between PS and Chegoy.”

The Social Democratic leader assured that the party “will fight P.S. and Chegoy in this complicity of goals”, but does not yet allow to go beyond the already announced address to the plenary session of Augusto. Santos Silva decision.

“We are going to make a decision at the plenary meeting, where it should be taken. There is a photo that I know you can take: this is Chega and P.S. they fly side by side, hand in hand,” he said, answering the question of whether to accept an appeal against the decision of the parliament to the Constitutional Court.

On the legal issue, Hugo Soares said he was convinced that the PSD draft did not violate the Constitution and indicated that there was a precedent for Santos Silva’s decisions to the contrary.

“I have no doubt that our initiative was permissible from the regimental and constitutional point of view, the SDP does not put forward initiatives that it considers unconstitutional or directed against the regiment,” he said.

“How many times are legislative initiatives rejected and at the same meeting the Government or another parliamentary group resumes them for discussion and voting? This will mean that political parties cannot have a parliamentary initiative, we are talking about a violation,” he said.

We are talking about paragraph 4 of article 167 of the Constitution, which determines that “drafts and bills, as well as referendums that have been finally rejected, cannot be renewed in the same legislative session, with the exception of new elections to the Assembly of the Republic.”

Accompanied by deputies Catarina Rocha Ferreira, Paula Cardoso and Joaquim Pinto Moreira, Hugo Soares gave the example of Chega’s legislative initiative to change the VAT, which was recognized by Santos Silva, despite the fact that he dealt with a similar issue that had previously been rejected.

On the other hand, the SDP general secretary stated that the SDP proposal for a referendum “has nothing to do” with Chega’s proposal, which was rejected in June.

“Our proposal was objectively and substantially different and was based on the final text adopted by the Assembly of the Republic,” he said, still distancing himself from Chega’s intention to try to stop the final global diploma vote on Friday.

Hugo Soares assured that the purpose of the PSD project was not to make a “deferment maneuver”, but was based on the desire to hold a referendum on the decriminalization of euthanasia.

“There is a clear fear of listening to the Portuguese and I don’t understand why,” he said.
