Maritime Police rescued 37 migrants in the Mediterranean, including 10 children and three babies, off the island of Pantelleria in Italy, who were traveling in three boats, the police said in a statement.
The Maritime Police, which is on a mission in the Mediterranean as part of Operation Themis by the European agency FRONTEX, received “three warnings” this morning at “three different times” about the presence of ships with migrants on board. Agents have arrived at the scene.
“NCIS intercepted three boats carrying 37 migrants, including two women, ten children and three infants, who showed signs of dehydration and fatigue. The migrants were rescued and taken for security reasons to the port of Pantelleria. where the Italian authorities and the FRONTEX team were waiting,” the press service of the Marine Police said.
