According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), all areas of the Portuguese mainland, as well as the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores, will be at very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) this Monday and Tuesday.
Mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago will be at very high levels this Monday and Tuesday, according to IPMA.
In the Azores, IPMA is predicting very high levels this Monday for all islands except Flores, where levels are moderate.
On Tuesday, all the islands of the Azores archipelago are at very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
The UV radiation scale has five levels, from extreme to low risk.
For extreme risk regions, IPMA recommends avoiding sun exposure as much as possible.
For very high risk regions, IPMA recommends the use of UV-blocking sunglasses, a hat, a T-shirt, an umbrella, sunscreen, and keeping children out of the sun.
