Spanish People’s Party President Alberto Nunez Feijoo said this Wednesday that he won the July 23 elections and should therefore govern, adding that the alternative is a “gimmick” that does not guarantee stability and manageability.
“We are responsible for providing Spain with a government that governs. And which governs from the first moment, and does not resist for several years,” Feihoo said at a meeting with deputies and senators elected by the PP (right) in the July 23 legislative elections, in which the party won, but did not gain an absolute majority of any alone, nor with the far-right VOX, with which it rules in coalition in the four autonomous regions of Spain.
The Socialist Party (PSOE) came in second in terms of votes and has more allies in Parliament, so for the moment it seems to have more room to form a government in alliance with the Somar platform (far left) and with parliamentary support from regionalists, nationalist and political separatist forces.
