According to executive producer Dean English, the fictional series Warrior Nun, starring Portuguese actress Alba Baptista, will be a trilogy of films.
In a post on Youtube on Tuesday, later reported by Variety, Dean English explains that three live-action feature films are planned to expand the universe of the Warrior Nun series, which was produced by the Netflix platform.
Warrior Nun, which debuted on Netflix in 2020 and received a second season in 2022, is inspired by Ben Dunn’s comic book The Warrior Nun of Areala, originally published in 1994.
The story’s protagonist is a young woman, played by Alba Baptista, who, according to the synopsis, “wakes up in a mortuary endowed with extraordinary powers and finds herself embroiled in a battle between good and evil.”
At the end of 2022, Netflix did not renew the series for a third season, prompting protests from hundreds of fans online and outside of the company’s headquarters in Los Angeles, United States of America, and a request to continue the project.
Last June, on Twitter, Canadian creator and producer Simon Barry announced that Warrior Nun would be returning, without giving details.
In a post released Tuesday, the executive producer only revealed that there will be three films that will continue the Warrior Nun universe, but without further production details because two writers and actors are still on strike in Hollywood. .
It is also unknown whether the Portuguese actress Alba Baptista will continue to participate in the project.
In an interview with Lusa in June 2020, Alba Baptista said that joining the series was a fluke after she entered and won recognition at the 2018 European Subtitle Film Festival in Ireland.
It was there that he contacted the casting directors and got the opportunity to make himself known. She was chosen as the main character of the series, which she says combines fantasy, action, science fiction, humor and can be useful for both young and adult audiences.
In addition to Alba Baptista, the cast of the series also includes Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida.
