Block de Esquerda wants the government to interrogate the Inspectorate General of Internal Administration over a supermarket theft in Porto that led to two arrests and a complaint against a PSP agent on Tuesday.
In a question addressed this Friday to the Home Office, BE speaks of “alleged police abuse by the PSP at Pingo Doche in Sedofeita.” [no concelho do Porto]and demand an investigation.
In the text, the blockers cite eyewitness accounts and say that three people were attacked after an attempted theft that led to the intervention of the PSP.
“Following a request for PSP intervention, it was discovered, according to eyewitnesses, that in the event of the alleged theft of goods worth 40 euros, 10 to 12 agents were involved, who, instead of calming down and investigating the facts that led to such a situation, ended up detaining the client who protested against the obviously excessive work of the guard [da loja] and assault with a baton on a third person who knew the detainee,” BE describes.
The blockers also talk about “severe injuries of a citizen” in need of hospital care.
“However, the violence was not only physical, but also verbal, while the attacked citizen became the object of bullying already at the police station by the agents present. Police intervention must, by law, be limited to what is strictly necessary to control the incident. The bodily injuries presented by the attacking citizen testify to the disproportionate and unjustified actions of the police officers, at a later moment, but also taking place, as noted in several testimonies, by the security of the trading establishment, ”Blok describes.
In response to questions addressed to the guardianship authorities, the blockers asked “what grounds justify the intervention of the police apparatus, consisting of more than 10 PSP officers, to detain an already immobilized person.”
“What specific measures have been taken to properly train police officers” or “what measures will be taken in relation to abusive and violent behavior of security officers, given that their activities are subject to licensing by the Ministry of Internal Affairs” are other questions.
At stake is the alleged theft that took place Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Pingo Doche in Sedofeita, in Porto.

Following the event, another 31-year-old woman living in Porto filed a complaint against a PSP agent for “breach of physical integrity” at the Sedofeita police station, she told Luce, adding that “they refused to disclose the identity of the abusive police officer.”
The complaint filed against the PSP agent was also confirmed by Porto’s PSP, who reported that the woman was attended to by an ambulance at the scene.
In a hospital report from the Hospital dos Luciadas, which Inez Rodriguez, the author of the complaint against the policeman, turned to, it says: “Victim of aggression with the use of a police baton [que] results [em] hematomas on the buttocks and the lower third of the back of the thigh and abrasions on the anterior surface of the left wrist.
