Chega President Andre Ventura announced this Saturday that he will again run for party leader at the convention to be held in Santarém on January 27, 28 and 29, 2023.
“I immediately announced, after the approval of the regulations and the correction by the councilors of the decisions that I took as party chairman, that I would run for a new term, and that this term should last until the elections of 2026,” Andre said. This was reported to journalists by Ventura at the end of the National Council, held in Castelo Branco.
This party meeting marked the next congress after the approval of the statute by the Constitutional Court (CC), and it was decided that the congress would take place in Santarém on January 27, 28 and 29, 2023.
“It was a big victory for the national leadership this Saturday here in this National Council. The members of the National Council recognized and approved the electoral regulations and the procedure for the work of what will be the V Chega Congress, which, thanks to the decision of the Labor Code, should be elective. This means that candidates for the post of chairman of the party and for various bodies will be open again,” he stressed.
The next election of Chega’s leader will be held not through direct elections, as it was before, but at the congress, since the charter, which the TC considers valid, provides for elections at the congress.
Andre Ventura took the opportunity to challenge his domestic critics by inviting them to run for party leader.
“I invited everyone who did not see themselves in the current leadership so that instead of engaging in scorched earth politics in the press and on social networks, they could apply. Right now. Everyone can be elected, everyone can apply,” he stressed..
Leader Chegi also stressed that there is no point in not running again.
“I was legitimized at the congress in Batalha a little over a month ago. We had a convention last year, the elections were clear and the result was clear. Leaving now meant running away from his duties. I’m not running away from my responsibilities. I’m here to give face again,” he concluded.
