The IL president said this Thursday that the liberals’ tax cut ambitions are “much bigger” than those announced by other parties, as he intends to make not “little patches” but “a real transformation of the country.”
“The ambition of the Liberal Initiative on the topic of lowering the IRS, the topic of lowering taxes in general in Portuguese society, is much more ambitious than what we have seen, proclaimed by other parties, no matter how much these parties have come forward, they may want to make it clear that it has ambitions similar to those of the Liberal Initiative,” said Rui Rocha at the opening of the municipal assembly “Towards the European Elections 2024” organized by IL and the Alliance Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE Party) in Porto.
According to the liberal, the issue of lowering the IRS became “suddenly a consensus” in society, even for those who did not raise this possibility.
“Let’s look, for example, at PS. The PS itself, the government itself at this point is already telling us that yes, that it wants to lower taxes, that it wants to lower the IRS, but we know the PS very well. well, we know the PS all too well and we know that what the PS pretends to give with one hand, it is ready to take away with the other,” he said.
In the opinion of the President of IL, if there is any reduction in the IRS in the next state budgets, “PS will take responsibility from the very beginning for what she did, whenever it is something that can be withdrawn in another way with other taxes and with new fees.
In his opinion, “record holders of the tax burden now will not become champions of economic freedom, it is impossible.”
In addition to PS, Rui Rocha also criticized PSD for saying he wants to lower the IRS but presenting a proposal that brings the Portuguese “only small fixes and changes” in financial affordability.
In his opinion, the social-democratic proposal is nothing more than “a huge communication campaign that is not worth more.”
The IL President confirmed that what is known about the intentions of both the PS and the SDP falls far short of what would be needed to revive the country’s economy.
“So we have a difference in ambition here, a difference in ambition between the Liberal Initiative and the PS, obviously, but also a huge difference in ambition between the Liberal Initiative and the SDP,” he stressed.
