Miguel Albuquerque, who heads the island executive of the SDP/SDS-PP coalition and leads the Madeiran social democratic structure, spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the company in Santana, in the north of the island, in response to an opportunity that Marques Mendez acknowledged on Sunday evening to be candidate for the presidency of the republic.
“He is undoubtedly a good candidate,” he stated, to later emphasize, “He is a potential centre-right candidate who has excellent conditions to win.”
Albuquerque, however, emphasized that “it’s premature to say whether he will get my support yet.”
Former PSD President Luis Marques Mendez acknowledged on Sunday his candidacy for the presidency “if it is good for the country” and “minimum conditions for promotion”, rejecting any decision for now or an agreement with the leader of the Social Democrats.
