The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira said on Tuesday that by upholding the constitutionality of the drug law, the Constitutional Court (TC) has set a “serious precedent” in terms of listening to autonomous regions in national legislative processes.
“This decision of the Constitutional Court is extremely harmful to the interests of the autonomous regions,” said José Manuel Rodriguez in a response published on Tuesday in the archipelago.
The Constitutional Court (CC) on Tuesday upheld the constitutionality of a parliamentary resolution decriminalizing synthetic drugs and introducing a new distinction between trafficking and consumption, in response to a request for preventive abstract control submitted by the President of the Republic.
