Madeira Government President (PSD/CDS-PP) Miguel Albuquerque said on Tuesday he was not surprised by the Constitutional Court’s recognition of the drug law and said the body’s decisions “have always been against Madeira.”
“In this particular case, Madeira was not even heard on a public health matter, and yet the Court [Constitucional] continues to make decisions contrary to the interests of the Autonomous Region of Madeira,” he said.
The official spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the company in the municipality of Santana, on the northern coast of the island, in response to the decision of the Constitutional Court (TC), which this Tuesday upheld the constitutionality of the law. a parliamentary decree that decriminalized drugs, synthetic substances and made a new distinction between trafficking and consumption, in accordance with the request for preventive abstract verification submitted by the President of the Republic.
